Content management with Joomla
Joomla is a content management system (cms) which is increasing constantly its range of coverage and is finding more and more fans. Because of its easy handling and a clearly arranged user interface it's the perfect solution for small and medium business companies.
Joomla (spoken dschuumla) is a powerful content management system (cms) which arised out of the Mambo project. The australian company Miro owns the rights on the name Mambo. Due to several reasons the developer community disagread with the plans of Miro, so they founded without further ado an own project named Joomla. Joomla is based on the code of Mambo. The name Joomla means in suaheli as much as "The ensemble". Joomla is published under GNU/GPL. Since 2008 Joomla is available in version 1.5, but even after reaching this milestone, the developing of Joomla goes on with big steps. With the launch of Joomla 1.5 the emancipation of Mambo is definitively finished.
To use Joomla in a webhosting environment an apache server is required. As database MySQL will be used. Furthermore on your webhost you have to have an PHP installation from version 5.0 upwards. XML suport is required as well. Thanks to the huge developer community you can find a lot of free extensions, which are easy to install. To develop on your own is because of that fact scarcely necessary, except for extraordinary projects.
Along with TYPO3 Joomla is one of the most famous and most powerful open source cms. Finishing version 1.5 the core team wants to make the step to a professional cms. Already today it's possible to realise bigger projects with Joomla, but if there is need for more flexibility, you should have a look at TYPO3.
