Joomla-Migration to Joomla! 1.5
Category: JoomlaIncreasingly by "start to web" questions concerning a migration of an existing installation of Joomla1.0.xx to version 1.5 drop in. Now, the Joomla Core Team on his blog again gave a brief overview of this hot debated issue.
According to the Joomla developers team the immigration software is meanwhile in the stadium RC6 . The current release candidate (RC) of the Migrator is available as a component for Joomla and helps in terms of the migration to version 1.5. In particular, the database tables of the extensions and of the core tables where seperated. By RC6 it is now also possible to manually choose which plugins on the new Joomla platform should remain running and which not. According to Joomla Core Team the RC6 Joomla-Migrator will be released as stable this week if no unforeseen bugs emerge. This is another important step toward the success of Joomla 1.5.
Of course, there are still extensions, which under Joomla 1.5 never will run. In a migration of an existing installation via Joomla Migrator also all core hacks - so called changes to the Joomla source - will be lost.
"start to web" still recommends to wait with migration. Should the desire for an early migration to version 1.5 occur, a detailed test period will be needed.
